Bunker Hill (S17QR2)
Bunker Hill
Bunker Hill arose in the 1950s when an above-ground bunker from the Second World War was demolished and covered up. Circular seating on the mound’s peak recalls the bunker’s circular structure and, by association, all those who suffered in the war. In 2017, the erection of a number of overlapping walkways with a reflective surface opened up unprecedented views of the surroundings and created new pathways for spiritual experience. Based on a design from Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, the installation was a gift from the Evangelical Church in Germany to Lutherstadt Wittenberg marking the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
